  • Union Government launched Madan Mohan Malviya National Mission on Teachers and Teaching on 25 December 2014. Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the mission at Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi.

  • Indian national team captain Sunil Chhetri was declared ‘AIFF Player ofthe Year’ for the third time in four years while Bala Devi has been declared the ‘Woman Player of the Year’. Sandesh Jhingan, who played for Kerala Blasters FC in the Indian Super League (ISL), was declared the ‘Emerging Player of the Year’.

  • Rajan Devadas, a photojournalist whose lenses chronicled Indo-US relations from Washington DC, for more than half-a-century died. He died due tocardiac arrest at the Hebrew Home of Greater Washington in Rockville, Maryland. He was 93.
  • AirAsia flight number QZ8501 wentmissing with 162 people on board en route from the Indonesian city of Surabaya to Singapore
  • The researchers at Louisiana State University (LSU) discovered a new method to convert Carbon Dioxide (CO2) into an Organic Compound. The findings were published in the journal Nature Communications
