1. Languid


Definition - of a person, manner, or gesture) having or showing a disinclination for physical exertion or effort 
Synonyms – lackadaisical, laid-back
Antonyms – active, energetic
E.g. – A slow, languid smile crossed his features, one that made her body flush and ache for him.

2. Officious 
Definition - assertive of authority in a domineering way, especially with regard to trivial matters 
Synonyms – busy, forward
Antonyms – modest, shy
E.g. – Because Cory is the boss’s son, he thinks he can stick his officious nose into everybody’s business without fear of consequences.

3. Mendacious 
Definition - not telling the truth, lying 
Synonyms – deceitful, deceptive
Antonyms – frank, honest
E.g. – Chuck is mendacious about his vegetarianism by eating chicken.

4. Alacrity 
Definition- brisk and cheerful readiness 
Synonyms – alertness, avidity
Antonyms – apathy, coolness
E.g. – Having studied really hard last night, the student took the exam withalacrity.

5. Maudlin 
Definition - self-pityingly or tearfully sentimental 
Synonyms – weepy, sentimental
Antonyms – unemotional, pragmatic
E.g. – You didn't invite me out here to listen to my maudlin rambling.

6. Opulent
Definition - ostentatiously costly and luxurious 
Synonyms – deluxe, extravagant
Antonyms – economical, poor
E.g. – The robed man led her into the fortress and wound his way through bright intersections, down stairs, and into a more opulent part of the building.

7. Mawkish 
Definition - sentimental in an exaggerated or false way 
Synonyms – cloying, gooey
Antonyms – calm, serious
E.g. – The star’s mawkish poem at her mentor’s funeral was so insincere that most of the guests rolled their eyes
